My favorite Christmas colors are the classic red and green. I love the rich red of Santa’s coat and the deep green of holly leaves in my holiday decorating. However, using too much red and green together can be a bit overwhelming to the eye, whether in decorating or on a scrapbook page.
When using red and green while decorating for Christmas, I make sure to break up these colors with something neutral–these days I love using kraft. We live in a farmhouse, so the rustic feel of kraft complements my decor well. So when I create Christmas layouts, I use kraft as a way to keep from having too much red and green on my page.
On this page, which documents some of the ornaments on our Christmas tree, I used a bright red and green to complement the colors in my photographs as well as establish the holiday theme. Then I used kraft as the background in order to keep the red and green from becoming too overwhelming on the page. The kraft gives the eye plenty of place to rest and downplays the contrast between the red and the green.
So the next time you are creating a Christmas layout or December Daily, keep this tip in mind–simply choose a neutral that complements your pictures. You can also find more inspiration for using red and green on your layouts on the Get It Scrapped blog.
