Kit of the Month

One of my favorite ways to get scrapbooking pages done quickly is to use a kit. I have been a member of many kit clubs over the years. Sadly, many of the companies are no longer in business. The latest kits I have been using are from Scrapbook Circle. The June kit, First Avenue, is a collection of cool papers and embellishments with a slight 60s retro vibe. The brown, cream, aqua, and orange color palette goes especially will with older photos.

Last week my family and I embarked on a major clean-up in our garage. We rented a dumpster and began de-junking this space that has been collecting miscellaneous items since we moved in four years ago. During this process, I unearthed a several bunches of old photos–some dating back to when my husband was a child. Others were of me while I was in college, some of my husband and I when we were first married (almost twenty-one years ago), and some of my oldest son at ages two and three (he is now 14).  As I began to pick out a few of my favorites that I knew I wanted to scrapbook, I realized that the First Avenue kit would be perfect for these photos.
The first pictures that I scrapped were two black and white photographs of our Rottweiler, Miranda, who unfortunately is no longer with us. She was the sweetest dog in the world and we miss her so much. I don’t have a whole lot of pictures of her, but many memories. Since I have another layout about Miranda that contains lengthy journaling, I didn’t write much on this page. But now I have these photos in an album, which makes me happy!

The next photo I scrapped was one of my and my first horse on the first day that I tried him out. I had been looking for a horse for a while and when I met Flash, I knew that I wanted him to be mine. We lost Flash this past October, so this photo brought tears to my eyes when I found it.

On to happier subjects! The next layouts all feature photos of my children when they were little. The first is my younger son at age one (he is now 10), the next is of my older son at age three (he is now 14), and the last is of all of my children at ages 10, 8, and 6. I love looking back at these photos and seeing how much my children have grown and changed over the years. The papers and embellishments from the First Avenue collection complemented these photos so well.

This kit was a joy to work with–I especially liked using the Basic Grey papers from their Hipster line. Since I used up almost all of this kit, I’m looking forward to the July kit!
