Silhouette Challenge

Posted on

After months of admiring the beautiful layouts other scrapbookers had made with their Silhouettes, I finally decided to buy my own. I watched a few tutorials to help me get started, and pretty soon I was making my own pages with Silhouette cuts. I also learned how to make cute tags and gift boxes.

Unfortunately, the enthusiasm for using my machine soon wore off. I went the easier route when making a page and just used the supplies I had in front of me. I stared at my Silhouette every time I came into my scrap room, promising myself that I would use it . . . next time.

Today is next time! I challenged myself to use my Silhouette on every layout I make for the rest of this month, just to see how many new ways I can incorporate die cutting in my current scrapping. I also signed up for a class on Craftsy by Paige Evans to learn more advanced features of my Silhouette.

My first layout uses a cut file from the Craftsy class. It is called Violet’s Lace and it is in the Silhouette store. Since this was my first layout using my Silhouette in a while, I made sure that the die cut was featured prominently on the page. This floral background complimented so well the photo of our new spring chicks.

I had so much fun making this page! Using the Silhouette can bring such dimension and texture to a layout. I cannot wait to try the next lesson in the Craftsy class!

Cameo Love

For the past few years, I have resisted getting an electronic die-cutting machine. But then I kept seeing beautiful pages made with Silhouette machines. I loved layouts made with intricate background patterns, especially the white-on-white pages.

So when the new Silhouette Cameo came out, I finally gave in to temptation. The first layout I made has a die-cut circle background—white-on-white of course!

I also filled in a few of the circles with pretty patterned paper. The background reminded me of photo I had taken recently of my daughter making her famous biscuits. The close-up shot reveals the wonderful texture I achieved by layering the die-cut on cardstock.

For Christmas I used cut files from Elle’s Studio to make gift tags. These tags were so much fun to make!

I am looking forward to getting to know my Silhouette Cameo better during 2015. I already have a collection of cut files that I cannot wait to use!
