Feelin’ Fresh

Posted on

When spring rolls around each year, I want to clean. I want to throw open the windows and let fresh air in. I want to get rid of the clutter that has accumulated over the winter. I want to use fun and bright colors on my pages!

In honor of this fresh start that spring brings, our first challenge for April at Counterfeit Kit Challenge is Feelin’ Fresh! Choose an object from real life or online (think Pinterest perhaps) that says FRESH & let it inspire your project. Color, shape, pattern – maybe it reminds you of a memory!

So I chose to use this fresh color scheme as inspiration for my page for this month’s challenge at Counterfeit Kit Challenge. I am using my kit for this month, Snapshot, based on the inspiration kit Ashton Court by Cocoa Daisy.

This color scheme was perfect for showcasing photographs of my daughter and me at our recent horse show. We both did well—the show was a great start to our spring show season.

Celebrate Spring | 1 Kit, 1 Sketch, 1 Month

Posted on

It is almost the end of the month (again!) and I am just now writing about my kit and sketch for March. I have been scrapping some—not nearly as much as I would like though–and blogging even less. Spring time has been busy!

In honor of spring, I selected a collection of supplies that celebrate the beauty and wonder of this season. I call this kit Celebrate Spring!

I began with this paper from Shimelle’s Little by Little collection. I loved the handmade look of the paper, the pretty pink color, and the mix of florals and polka dots. The rest of my papers stick to a color scheme of pink, yellow, and blue. I mixed in more stripes, florals, and polka dots.

The embellishments I chose include die cuts, puffy stickers, flat stickers, rhinestones, butterflies, chipboard die cuts, enamel dots, letter stickers, and washi tape. My favorite embellishments are these butterflies from Maggie Holmes. (**A complete list of supplies is at the end of the post.**)

I have been working with this sketch this month.

The first layout I made told the story of my son and daughter volunteering to help at various events at our church. The photographs are from the recent Valentine’s Day Pancake Breakfast. They both helped prepare and serve the food. I am very proud of their generous spirit!

The layout stuck fairly closely to the sketch. The background patterned paper I used at the top of the page is somewhat bold, so I simply used white cardstock at the bottom to give the eye a place to rest. The die cuts from the Tealightful collection from Pebbles were perfect as accents to the page!

The second layout features pictures of my son and husband at a recent grass fire. The two of them are both volunteers at our local fire department. I wanted to document their service to our community.

For this page, I turned the sketch so that the photos were at the top of the page. It was a challenge to create this page from a collection with so many pinks. I chose a color scheme of yellow, blue, and red and used the papers and embellishments I had that fit this scheme. I love the simplicity of the page and the pops of red against the lighter blues and yellows.

The final layout I have made thus far flips the sketch so that the photographs are on the left side. This arrangement fit my pictures well, since my daughter is looking off to the right in the bottom photo.

This page tells the story of my daughter taking Chinese classes at the school run by our local Chinese Association. For this layout, I used lots of layers under the photos as well as more embellishments. I love the butterfly in the lower corner symbolizing my daughter’s growth in beginning a new adventure as well as learning a new language.

I have a few more days left this month so I am hoping to get a more layouts done with the Celebrate Spring collection. Happy Spring!

Bee-lightful | 1 Kit, 1 Sketch, 1 Month

Posted on

It’s raining.

It’s snowing.

It’s sunny.

It’s 75º.

It’s 35º.

Any of these weather conditions may apply on any given day where I live in North Carolina in February. Luckily, so far this month the weather has been fairly mild. Today we are forecasted to have a high of 76º!

This warm weather, however, has given me a good case of spring fever! So when I spied this bee paper from 1 Canoe 2, I couldn’t wait to use it as inspiration for my kit this month.

The paper’s color scheme of light yellows, pinks, and browns with a touch of black became the criteria I used for choosing the rest of my patterned papers. Many of the papers have a watercolor look, adding to the spring-like theme. I also added a 6×6 paper pad this month—a product I usually don’t work with—but I loved the colors in the Golden Days collection by Fancy Pants.

When choosing embellishments, I looked for ones with the same color scheme as well as the watercolor look. I added washi tape, die cuts, tags, clips, flair, enamel dots, chipboard, letter, cork, and cardstock stickers. One washi tape and the cardstock stickers both have bees to coordinate with my inspiration paper!

(For a complete list of supplies, scroll to the bottom of the post.)

To go along with my kit, Bee-lightful, I created this sketch. The design is made for three 3×3 photographs, but could easily be adapted for one horizontal picture by itself or paired with a 4×4 picture.

After I enjoy this wonderful warm day, I am going to dig into my kit. I’ll post my layouts later this month!

So here it is in reality–my newest kit–Cheers! (For a look at how I created this kit, see this post.)

Now that I have the papers and embellishments in hand, I just keep thinking how cheery this collection is. Thus the name–Cheers!

My first layout for this kit is based on this sketch by Sherry Stringfield at Sketch Savvy.

The sketch is fairly simple and the papers complemented my spring flower photographs–definitely a cheery subject for me! Although the sketch suggested using two patterned papers in the background, I chose to use a solid cardstock with the butterfly paper since I wanted my pictures to stand out.
