Getting Unstuck

Whenever I feel my scrappy mojo on the decline, I start looking for inspiration. Many times I search out new sketches to jumpstart my creativity.

Recently, I discovered a new sketch challenge blog, Stuck?! Sketches. I was intrigued by the sketches posted for the month of September—both used multiple photos and two distinct design areas. Since I usually use only one photo and one design area, I wanted to use both these sketches in order to challenge myself!

I began with the sketch from September 1. Choosing three photos for this sketch was a not an easy task. I searched for three related photos that could be cropped down to 3×3 effectively. Ultimately I picked three pictures of my kids playing outside on a wonderful summer evening. I paired the photos with an older kit from Studio Calico.

The color scheme I chose is mainly light, washed-out colors with just a pop of bright red. These colors mimic the photos which are somewhat blown-out with bits of color on my kids’ clothes.

I highly recommend using sketches when you are in need of some scrappy inspiration!
