On Fire

For years I attempted to get my oldest son interested in something other than video games. We tried Tae Kwon Do, riding, basketball, and coding, among other activities. Nothing stuck.

Then one day, my husband decided to join our local volunteer fire department. He found out that kids could join at 14 and become junior firefighters. At that time, my son was close to that age. When he did turn 14, my son began going to the fire department with my husband. Together they started firefighter training. After only a few months something stuck—my son discovered he loved being a firefighter!

My son is now 16 and plans to become a wild land firefighter.

As he has gotten older, my son has decided he does not like having his picture taken all the time, much to the chagrin of his scrapbooking mother. So I try to respect his privacy by backing off a little with my camera.

I took the pictures in the page below while he was fighting a grass fire (his favorite).

For the layout, I used the September kit from Citrus Twist Kits as well as a sketch from the blog.

I am thankful every day that my son has found his calling. I am also glad I am able to capture his early firefighting career!
