This month at Counterfeit Kit Challenge, we are working with the March kit from The Papier Werkstatt. The collection is neutral–lots of krafts and soft colors. My kit, Antique Butterfly, has kraft as the inspiration color, but ended up having a much more vintage style.

Another aspect of the inspiration kit is its use of supplies that we do not normally see in scrapbooking, such as felt and handmade paper. The second challenge this month for the Master Forgers is to use a similar item in our project.

CHALLENGE TWO: Outside the Stash – incorporate something non-scrapbook stash related onto your project. Our inspiration kit features a sheet of handmade paper and some thick felt to create a mini-book, neither of which are usually found in our everyday stash. So follow its lead and find something from outside your scrapbooking stash to include on your project.

As I looked around outside my scrap room for something to use in my layout, I spied this gift bag that was destined for the trash.

gift bag

My husband had recently used it to give me a present for our 24th anniversary. I was going to save the bag to use again, but somehow holes had been torn into the bag(?). So before I tossed it, I cut some of the paper from the bag and a little bit of the gold tissue paper from inside.

Both of these items now reside on my page–which documents the gift that was in the bag! Very serendipitous!

Make sure to visit the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog to see how the other Master Forgers interpreted this challenge.

  1. We can always reuse those gift bags even if not for their purpose. I have a pile of the nicer ones that recycle into many other things – get job!

  2. Aren’t you blessed? Great gift, and totally fun to scrap it with the bag & tissue! I could probably find something to use on every layout with this idea to broaden my stash horizons : )

  3. What a great “full circle” moment to use the packaging to document the gift! I love the pink, blue, kraft/brown color combination and that cute little cluster at the top left rally caught my eye!

  4. Yes! This is great! I love it. I often save bits of gift bags and you know how much I love tissue paper! Great job and totally perfect for this sweet layout about the gift in the bag!

  5. Very clever – a great way to use up a bag if it has gotten torn or messed up in part so that you don’t want to use it again for gifts. I find that happens more than you think.
