February CKC Kit Reveal Blog Hop | Happy Little Things

Welcome to the February Counterfeit Kit Reveal Blog Hop!

You should be arriving here from Julene’s blog. If not and you would like to see the entire hop order, just go on back to the CKC home page.

This month we have a beautiful and jam-packed inspiration kit from Noel Mignon. The Weekend in Paris kit is gorgeous! There are patterned papers in happy pinks, and greens, and blues. There are stickers, doilies, pom-poms, and enamel dots–and so much more! I loved having so many products to be inspired by as I curated my own kit.

Recently I purchased a few pieces of the My Mind’s Eye Blush collection. So I started my February kit with these pieces. Then I added these supplies:

  • patterned paper from Pink Paislee, Pinkfresh Studio, Ella & Viv, Bo Bunny, and Maggie Holmes
  • chipboard stickers from Pinkfresh Studio
  • doilies from Prima
  • stickers from Jen Hadfield
  • enamel dots from Echo Park
  • die cuts from Maggie Holmes and Crate Paper

The inspiration kit seemed to me to be fun, flirty, and just adorable. My kit gives me the same feelings! I took inspiration from one of the journaling cards on the patterned paper from Pinkfresh Studio and named my kit Happy Little Things. This kit just makes me happy!

I hope you are enjoying this month’s reveal and are inspired to create a kit that makes you happy!

Winter Joy

Posted on

Summer has to be my favorite time of year. I have strong dislike for cold, dreary weather. So why is this blog post titled “Winter Joy?”

Well, there is one thing that I enjoy about winter–when it snows. Even though it is cold and all the water troughs freeze over (we have horses), a snowfall on the farm is just so pretty.

December Mood Board

When I saw the December mood board at Scrapbook Challenges, I instantly wanted to scrapbook some photos of the snow at my house. I found two that I liked and used the December Noel Mignon kit to make my page. The sketch is from the Scrapbook Challenges archive.

So even though I would rather be in June than January, I can still appreciate the beauty of a snowfall.

Golden Delicious

Posted on

What better symbol of fall than the apple? I love this time of year when the store shelves are filled with crisp tasty apples. And what better name for an autumn-themed scrapbooking kit than Golden Delicious?

This month the Noel Mignon classic kit, Golden Delicious, is brimming with beautiful fall-patterned papers and matching embellishments. It is the first time I have ever used a Noel Mignon kit, so I was pleasantly surprised by the number of papers and amount of embellishments included. Consequently, I was able to make a number of layouts–and I still have tons of product to scrap the rest of my fall photos.

My first layout, Fall Football Fun, is a double-page layout based on a sketch challenge at Scrapbook Challenges. I do not make two-page layouts very often, so this page was a lot of fun. I scrapped some photos of my husband and sons playing football one fall evening last year.

The second layout I made, Happy Fall, is also based on a sketch challenge at Scrapbook Challenges. This page documents my son carving jack-o-lanterns the day after Halloween. I used the pumpkins as decoration for our Halloween party, so I did not let him carve them. He insisted though, so on November 1, he convinced his sister to help him make jack-o-lanterns.

The last layout (so far) is called Being Sparky. My son is a volunteer junior firefighter and he offered to be Sparky the Fire Dog at a recent community event. We were very proud of him–he donned his fire gear and a very uncomfortable mask to entertain the children. The design inspiration came from a layout on Jana Eubank’s blog in which she scraplifted a page by Tracie Claiborne (from Tracie’s podcast and video series Live Inspired). To see one other layout from this kit and find out more about the Live Inspired series, go to this post on my blog.

Fall is certainly a wonderful time of year and a fun time to scrap, especially when you have such inspirational product like that in the Noel Mignon kit. I cannot wait to use the rest of the kit!

How Do I Live an Inspired Life?

Posted on

Living an inspired life–what exactly does that mean? For me, living inspired means surrounding myself with the things I find most beautiful in life. So how do I live inspired?

* I take time to enjoy nature. I live on a 35-acre farm in the middle of North Carolina–it is a gorgeous property! When I go outside, I can see forests, mountains, a creek, my horses, chickens, and the endless blue sky. Right now the leaves have turned stunning colors of gold and yellow and orange. I am never at a loss for inspiration when I turn to nature.

* I listen to podcasts. Since I live on a farm in the country far from civilization, I spend much time in the car going to church, the grocery store, or my kids’ various activities. Listening to podcasts always inspires me to be creative when I return home.

* I play with pretty patterned paper. When I feel that I have absolutely no scrappy mojo left at all, I simply sit down at my desk and pull out a kit (I have most of my supplies organized into kits). Just going through the papers and admiring the patterns will usually spark some small creative fire in me.

It just so happens that listening to a podcast is what inspired this layout–

hello fall

One day recently I was listening to Tracie Claiborne’s new podcast, Live Inspired, in which she interviews Jana Eubank, a design team member at Noel Mignon. I just happened to have purchased my first Noel Mignon kit and I love it! This month’s Golden Delicious kit features supplies with a homey, rustic feel which complements so many of my life-in-the-country photos. Later that day, still inspired by the podcast, I watched Tracie’s video in which she creates a layout based on a page by Jana. Both layouts were fantastic! Together with my Noel Mignon kit and ideas from both pages, I created this Hello Fall layout.

If you are in need of some scrappy inspiration I recommend you check out Tracie’s Live Inspire podcast and video, as well as Jana’s blog. You will be feeling creative in no time!

Turning 15

Posted on

My daughter just turned 15 years old. Like most mothers, I look at her and say, “I cannot believe you are 15 already. It seems like just yesterday that you were watching Dora the Explorer and I was buying your clothes at Gymboree.” The time really has gone by quickly. I am so thankful I have been able to capture her life in my scrapbook pages.

And her 15th birthday was no exception. We celebrated in typical Margaux style–BBQ ribs (she loves meat of any variety), red velvet cake (made by her brother), and new wireless headphones (her current pair had just broken). I made sure to get photographs!

Margaux is not a girly-girl, so when I began this layout using a sketch from Scrapbook Challenges, I decided to leave the page rather simple. I converted the pictures to black & white due to the low light and clashing colors in the photos. All the supplies are from the Golden Delicious kit from Noel Mignon.
